Hi guys, I took my resonator off my 2000 SVT, in the hopes of achieving a louder, more agressive sound. Well, after doing so, it is definitely louder, and deeper. But I have a TERRIBLE rasp. I'd like to let you here it, but I don't have means to do so. First check this link out and listen to the sound clip... http://www.contour.org/cgi-ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=40&t=001648&p= Now, my rasp is about 3-4 times WORSE than that. The only mods I have is the resonator, and a KKM intake. It seems to get a little better/quieter/bearable once the exhaust warms up, but I'm hesitant to accelerate aggressively, because I'm almost to the point of being embarrassed at the sound of my car. IT'S NOT A RICE BURNER. And I don't want it to sound like one. So I guess my question is, What is causing this? I'm no gearhead, but my guess is that with my intake and no resonator, I'm trying to force way too much air through the stock SVT mufflers, and they can't handle it. Thus the chambers inside my mufflers are rattling. Is this correct? I was thinking of purchasing a Cat-Back system for it, but don't know which one will give me the deepest sound, with the least amount of rasp. I'm willing to sacrifice some loudness if I can achieve a great sound with no rasp. Any ideas you guys can give me will be greatly appreciated! And I apologize in advance if there were already posts on this subject, I'm a very busy person and unfortunately have trouble finding the time to search through all the posts. And one more question... I noticed that the Borla Cat-Back is designed for 98-99 SVTs. Will it not work with 2000 SVTs?

I believe the resonator is what takes that rasp out. Exhaust tone is a personal thing, I also took my resonator out, I liked it for awile but then just bought the bassani cat back. wonder what it would sound like with resonator and no rear mufflers, I wanted to try this but didnt want to mess with exhaust anymore.

I had a Sho Shop Y pipe on mine and removed the resonator. Sounded just like you described. I put the stock Y back in and it improved. I got a custom cat back system done using a Magnaflow muffler. You can see it here . Nice deep tone, no rasp. Hope that gives you some help.

I have the Sho-Shop Y pipe and the Bassani. It is noticably lower in note than stock, it is slightly louder, no drone, and only a little rasp, and only when cold. I love it!

I have heard of guys who had a glasspack welded in backwards. Because it is backwards, it gets rid on the rasp but doesn't make it any quieter. Might want to try that.
1995 SE Mods-Resonator gone, glasspack in place (It sounds good, try it). Cracked secondaries, TPS Mod, Removed Intake resonators. Future Mods- SVT exhaust (Wanna sell yours?) and window tinting this summer. More for later. Its my daily driver that I race on the weekends.

Might want to try that. Most glasspacks are non-directional. (louvered kind (read crappy!) are uni-directional) Putting a uni-directional glasspack backwards does nothing except make it blow out faster (as if they don't blow out fast enough as is) and also will make it louder! A glasspack will do nothing for rasp. Glasspacks and their better cousins Resonators are for killing noise level and drone. If you want to kill the rasp put a full size high flow resonator (or cat if removed!) back in. A catless Y-pipe is were a lot of rasp comes from. (most common reason for rasp) Headers or gutted manifolds are much worse for producing rasp! (this may be a good mod for power, but damn does it have some nasty drawbacks!) I can't believe I don't hear people complaining all the time about how bad the exhaust sounds because of these mods! It's like a swarm of angry Honduh's... Sounds like complete Ass IMO... Even warm it sounds bad under hard acceleration.

I had all kinds of rasp and drone until I went with a resonator, I purchased a Dynomax Ultraflo 17230 instead of the 24215. No rasp, no drone. I will try to post a .wav file tomorrow morning, it will be 35F tonite, and it will give a great indication of what a cold sounding exhaust sounds like. Look at the sig for details.

Even warm it sounds bad under hard acceleration. We seem to be in the same boat. My theory is that some major muffling in the center region of the car, followed by long tail pipes will eliminate the rasp of a car with headers and no cat. I hoping that I can fit a 24-inch body Magnaflow 5x8 muffler (part no. 12286) under there. I can already see some obstacles, but hopefully they are nothing I can't work around.
