So I was thinking of getting some kind of canister to seperate the gunk out of the PCV vacuum stream before hitting the intake....

then it dawned on me....

Has anyone ever though of using a Water/Oil sperator for an air compressor line. You can pick them up for 20$ or less from just about any auto store (even home depot has them), they even make some that empty themselves out, and if theses things can handle a 3/8" hose @ 90 PSI then they should be able perform for our needs. ALso they are pretty compact in size which would allow for placement in the stock location without comprimising much.

Any thoughts?

Costs ~$5-10

Works like a charm!

Here's a picture on a Contour...

Also to prevent intake gunk. Never trickle fill your gas tank. When the pump auto-shuts off; That it!

If you overfill the gas tank, actual raw fuel (not vapor) can get into the carbon cannisters (vapor return system) and be recycled into the intake.

Hummm...now who said that!!!! wink The seperator needs to be between the pcv port and the pcv valve so the soilds can drop out to the bottom(with a drain cock, also the vapor connection from the purge sol still must be retained.......

I got my PCV oil seperator for $30 from Anastazi this week. I will install tomorrow. I hope help prevent the carbon build up on the secondary runners. I have 102k on the Contour.

Yeah i though about doing what that pic is posted, but an Air Compressor oil seperator is MADE to do this, is much much smaller than that (only about 3" tall) and you don't have to build it ....

i'm just asking... will it work?

Yes technically it would work.

I'd definitely get a self draining unit as that small piece would fill up in a hurry becoming useless.

Also the more oil in it the less effective it becomes.

Personally I think it would be too small due to the amount of air going through it and the long/extended run periods.
Also I do not know if their efficiency drops at low psi levels???

I much prefer a large unit that filters as much oil vapor as possible over a tiny unit.

ok well i will look into the self draining unit and see if i can determine low psi efficiency, although i would assume it should work better at low psi, as most things used at a lower psi have higher requirements for less oil/water but i will confirm this....

So, how much oil have you picked up? In how much mileage?

Just wondering, while pondering this mod.. laugh
