despite the low kms of my car , i have the fuel-pump hesitation issue on low fuel . in order to preserve cash , i would really like to avoid buying a new pump & having the dealer drop the gas tank & install it .
newest recommendation i received was to axis the FP via the rear-seat portal & remove the disc-screen & ALSO REMOVE THE FILTER SOCK ! theory is we do this 1 time & there can no longer be any more power cuts !
i asked : is it okay to remove the sock and the answer i got was : THE FUEL FILTER IS A FINER SCREEN THAN THE SOCK ; so there shouldn't be any risk of clogging the injectors .
i will do this & change the fuel filter more often if the esteemed CEG'ers here agree with the mechanics view !
thanks to all who offer their opinions !

What? I have no idea what you said there. If it's a 99+ get the focus pump for $100 and follow the how to and remove the disc in the tank. Simple as that. This isn't a science project or some retard theory.

thanks again for the links , i have read thru those & many more . let me just comment further to support my post & avoid any possible trivializing on my situation :
- another CEG'er wrote that after he removed the disc-screen ( WHICH IS UNDEBATABLE AS A PROBLEM ) he also had power cutting symptoms caused by the FILTER-SOCK blocking the fuel flow to the pump either by direct contact or further accumulation of "dirt" . i figure that even after cleaning the sock with brake/carb cleaner , if it is possible to clog up again then this mechanics advise to remove the SOCK would be advisable while the vehicle is being attended to !
- taxes in Canada are higher than elsewhere , so a FSVT or CSVT fuel pump from the dealer plus 2-3 hrs labour from the dealer which is where i would bring the car in & all together would total near 700 minimum ! this is way more than the 100 i may give my friend who is a mechanic at Toyota to remove those 2 filers on the FP module & unit .
i welcome further responses !

If you read the second thread.

One additional comment. On the how too for changing the pump, look at the last photo. It shows the pre-filter screen at the bottom of the fuel pump module. I'll get back to that in a moment. .......
If you end up using the original module housing, make sure that you take the filter screen out and throw it away. You don't need it. As you can tell once you're inside the module there is a sock style filter before the pump anyway.
The pre-filter screen may be all that is wrong. It often is. Later Cougars as well as Foci (plural of Focus) had a recall over this issue (Contour was just old enough to slide under the radar). The pre-filter is too small and too fine, and clogs up with little provication. ....

Tony2005 : i did read your links before i made this posting & after you referred to them in your reply ! i understand the " pre-filter-disc-screen " is too fine and MUST BE REMOVED !
i am just concerned that the sock-filter may be or could in ANY way be contributing to the symptoms we know ! there was a thread/post/reply in our forum where a member said they had a re-occurance of the symptoms , likely from a dirty sock-filter !
I am NOT interested in having to deal with this more than 1X , as my friend will have the fuel-pump pulled through the rear-seat & may need to cut away at the floor . i am also purchasing a new gasket to go under the locking ring as I WANT TO DO THIS RIGHT & FINAL only !
guess what i really am looking to gauge from your responses is either BAD or GOOD idea to remove the sock filter and rely on the fuel-filter for gaurding the engine !
the car only has like 50,000 miles for a 99 , the FP has lots more life ! how can i justify close to a $1000 job for a engineers blunder !
lets hear more opinions !!!!!!
