When I checked the belt, about half of it was there and it was cracked pretty bad so I decided to change it. Went to Advance Auto and got a Duralast belt, put it on and took care of that. It was fine when I started it and revved it right after I replaced it, then drive 200 miles back on it. Well, now it will not stop screaming. At idle is the only time it shuts up, but not very much, otherwise it is very loud and embarrassing. I threw tons of WD-40 at it, took care of it for about 2 mile. then tried grease, and that did somehting but the next morning it was loud as ever. This has a automatic spring tensioner, right? So I would guess that I don't need to tighten it since the spring does it, or am I wrong here? I really need to get this fixed, it is driving me crazy!!!! It is so loud, sounds like someone is strangling a cat under my hood!!! I tried to search and see what others did, but oculdn't find anything related to it screaming like this. Oh, if it makes a difference in the morning it is worse then in the afternoon, although the difference is not that much. Thanks.

Could be a non-Ford belt issue. I replaced mine last summer w/ an aftermarket one from AutoZone...made my car sound like it had a supercharger (which would be nice if it really did!). Replaced it w/ a Ford belt, noise gone. Might be worth a shot.

Hmmm.... possible I guess although I don't want to spend ANOTHER $30 on a stupid belt. That would be the thrid belt I bought in the past month (first got stolen). What if I got some of that belt lube conditioner whatever its called from a auto store? is that any good?

Don't use belt lube conditioner. Either the belt is incorrectly sized or the tensioner is loose.

Well, I bought one and it got stolen when the car got broken into (it was in the trunk, was gonna put it on like that day too), then bought the piece of junk on there now, and if I have to buy another then thats 3 in the past month, bringing it to $90 for a stupid belt!! Can I do anything else? Think when I go on this 800 mile road trip this weekend it will get broken in and shut up? Can I tighten it somehow, even though its spring loaded?

It could be that the tensioner is just too tight. My tensioner caused the bearings in two idler pullies and one tensioner pully to go out before I figured out what was going on. I didn't know of any way to change the tension, so I just replaced it. I never experienced a screamer like yours, but it could be related.

hmm i will keep that in mind when i play with it when it gets light out. there were a few developments on the way home today-it did it ha higher rm[p(over 1800 vs all the time) and get this-its niticibly BETTER with the ac ON! so I know from that its not too loose so..I think that it might jsut need to be broken in so maybe this 800 mile trip this weekend will make it better...... we'll see cause it didn't do it when i first put it on, i niticed it after I got back from a 200 mile drive, which i drove right after i replaced it. anyway this is really bugging me becuase I try to take good care of my car and it looks nice and then that thing starts screaming and it jsut ruins it. so I'm up for any suggestions, no matter how crazy.

You didn't say that you replaced the tensioner, did you?
