Hey if anyone could help me figure out what is wrong or give any advice that would be great. I was driving home from work yesterday, and as I started out from a stop i continued through the intersection, until my car just killed, so I rolled to the curb to park, then tried turning it over again. It would turn over, but would idle very rough for a few moments then die, and then if i tried to start it again it would almost turn over but not make it. So I'm pretty sure its a fuel problem...I replaced the fuel pump last fall, and can here it turn on with the ignition, but does anyone have any ideas of what may cause a situaion like this...? It's a 1998 ford contour svt Thanks in advance

i had a similar problem. my car would just randomly die anywhere it wanted to. and then id try to start it and it would start run for a few seconds with a almost stumbling idle and then die again. after stalling a few times the car would start like normal and ran perfect. i was told i needed to replace the fuel pump from the previous owner, but i hadn't yet. later in the month i unplugged the fuel pump and looked at the actual plug. the black wire was chared. i took a knife and cleaned that one terminal and pluged it back in. hasnt given me any problem since. my is also a 98 svt. try looking at the plg and repost if that helped any.

thanks for the quick responses, I am right now in the middle of an intake rebuild, and am going to check the fuel pump right after i complete this job, between the two, hopefully one does the trick, if not I will get it scanned and post the codes. Thanks again and I'll keep updating
