A friend of mine has 3. I might be getting one from him in the near future. I was always under the impression they smelled really bad but they don't with proper maintenance. He gives them a quick bath about once a week, cages are kept clean, and sprays them with a deodorant (pear scent ) and you would never know he owned 3 of them if you walked into his house. They are soo funny too. Like kittens that never grew up. Can't wait to get one.

I've had a few over the years, and really enjoyed them as pets. My first pair I "split" with my freshman roommate - he wound up taking them home with him at the end of the school year...then never returned to school. By my junior year, I had 2 more. Technically, my roommate (different person) bought them, but he NEVER took care of them. They were my buddies. I took them home with me after graduating college and eventually had to give them up 'cause my mother absolutely hated having them there (she's obsessively clean). I bathed the buggers regularly, she just couldn't get over the "love nuggets" they'd leave in the corners. My male ferret, Lupus, was the BEST! (He's the one out of the hammock) He'd sit on my lap when I read the paper, follow me from room to room...he was a people ferret. He died about a year ago from leukemia...RIP to one badass ferret.

I used to have 2 ferrets back in the day. I liked them a lot, but they smelled bad, and yes, I did clean them and their cage regularly

I think they're cool, and pretty smart. Lots of fun. This chick i knew had one, it fell off something and hit it's head and it sat there holding it's head like a person. They do need to be de scented, and still bathed regularly. I don't recall hers smelling bad though. I'd like one, but i do not have the time to devote to one, so maybe some time in the future.

We used to keep about 3 or 4 at a time to go ferretting, they were strictly outdoors animals though. Neat animals, but stink bad! BTW ... that's a polecat, well European Polecat, if you want to be exact The common ferret is yellowish in colour, [European] polecats are dark with rings on their face. Well...back to the World Cup for me, England won 2-0 ...

My apartment roommate had one male and one female, and yes with a huge cage (4 foot square by 5.5 foot tall). Unfortunately they stunk, though I imagine she didn't bathe them enough. Very cute, playful animals (though the female tended to bite a bit) ... totally awesome to put on a leash and take for a walk I'd think of owning a couple, but my mom would go ballistic with the dog, three rats and python that we already have in the house (the latter four animals being my sister's). Perhaps in the future - though I'd probably still consider getting a dog first.
