Well, just got done giving the last set of finals, and the kids are gone for the summer, (for those that don't know, I teach math in an inner-city high school in Pittsbugh). Now I can finally get to work on a heat-shield! Any other teachers here?

Considering becoming a teacher here...

It's interesting. Bush's "No child left behind" crap makes it a bit less appealing, as does the piss-poor attitude of many parents. However, having students come back a few years later just to say thanks......that's cool beyond words.

I really believe the problem with today's schools is parenting. I also think the school systems tolerance of misbehaving children is far to generous.

I can't even begin to relate all I have seen this year, but how about a student (male) punching another studetn (female) in the face, twice, and getting only a 1 day suspension. WHY? Because he told the vice-pricipal he was really SORRY?

My fiances aunt and uncle were math teachers...I even had him as a teacher in 9th grade. We go over to their cabin all the time (right next to her parents lot on the same lake). They are both retired, but she had to go back to teaching for around 2 months at the end of this school year because one of the other teachers had a baby. She said it wasn't too fun. Oh yeah, who said teacher's can't make it on their salaries....granted they are retired, but they get a new car at least once a year, have a TWO lake homes, nice big sony LCD TV, four wheelers, boats, snowmachines etc. But then again after teaching brats for 30 years (like me) they deserve it.

Thanks, you may be the first person to say teachers EARN their salary. And for anyone who thinks we don't, did you have to walk thru a metal detector in your office today?
