The way I removed mine was to get a recipricating saw and just cut the pipe on both ends. Dropped down the resonator and welded up a straight pipe. Took a whole 5-10 mins tops. The sound is a bit louder and there's noticable rasp, especially when the exhaust is still cold.

Do not do this to your car. Do you understand that. I did it, and had to drive with what sounded like I was dragging coffee cans with little pellets in them around for months. There aren't any power gains either.

Remove the resonator, put a glasspack in place. 20,000 miles on mine, and it still sounds great.

i agree with SWEETSVT99, i did the same thing about 35,000 miles ago and the sound is awesome! my setup is the msds headers and ypipe, stock cat, glasspack, then stainless pipe all the way to the rear of the car. nice and deep sounding, but not obnoxious

Just because your install got messed up or you used a sh*tty component doesn't mean you should defer others from a power-gaining mod. Stock res. is chambered. High flow res is not. Therefore, less backpressure = more power. Of course a $20-40 mod like this won't throw you back into your seat when you punch the gas, but its a start to increase the gains of future projects (MAF, UIM, etc).

i noticed a little power gain but if anything just made it sound sweeter w/my exhaust...it is a power restricting device...kinda negates the reasoning in puttin an exhaust on if you are goin to keep the resonator

For the 2-3hp you pick up (I dynoed it, so STFU), it isn't worth the trade-offs. Replacing it with a high-flow resonator (what I finally did) still gives you some added "noise", but still adds a slight restriction to your exhaust, so now you're probably 1-2hp over stock. Not worth it for the trouble and money you're wasting, unless you're doing it purely for sound.

I know you all are talking about the SVT and all, but I have a Zetec. Now I am going to do this mod in 2-3 weeks. I JUst need to know how. Does the section like pop out or do you need to cut stuff? What would you use to cut that most people have around their garages? Now remember, I am 16 and I like the noise. I wanna PUll up next to a honda and rev away. I could care less about the HP gains (not totally true). But after I removed the resonator I was going to put on a dual muffler setup. Ya know, the rice mufflers! LOL! Anyway, please let me know. Thanks!
