I think from my searches it could be a the differential but, wanted some opinions. My 98 SVT has had a chattering/grinding sound from 1k to 2k rps with clutch fully engaged and it goes away once I pass 2k rps for a little while now sounds kinda like an old farm trucl is the best I can describe it hehe. Recently it has been accompanied by a squeal if the car has sat for even 5 mins the squeal happens once and is gone almost sounds like a belt or a tire rubbing but I know it's neither. Had another thought it also sounds kinda like a power steering pump so maybe the clutch cylinder? I always attributed it to the clutch the previous owner said it was a heavy duty clutch. It grabs hard and there is no slippage.

On performance clutches you can expect some chattering as they engage. I would test it anyway for slippage.

Yeah thats why I wasn't to concerned with it till now, maybe the squeal is totally unrelated.

my old clutch had been making a sound similar to what you are describing. it made like a chattering sound at idle. my clutch had went out like a year later at around 85,000 miles(stock clutch). the springs were all loose in the disk and one spring had came out and got stuck in a release arm on the preasure plate. driving with it like that was mostly a pain at stop lights. it didnt want to go into 1st from nuetral with the engien running.

They chatter when disengaged, not engaged.

Not sure about the squealing, but mine had a chatter on acceleration between 1k to 2k rpm's, turns out the heat sheild on the cat was loose and rattled.

Just something to check.
