I didnt even search this becuase I am pretty sure this doesn't happen much.

2000 Contour SVT

The ignirion is in the off position and the keys are not in the ignition.

When I turn the headlight switch on the blower motor for the A/C is operable on all speeds, the fuel pump primes and you can also hear the relays under the hood in power distribution box click. The security light on the dash blinks fast also (like an improper key or non chipped key was used to turn the ignition on). From what I can tell the car thinks the ignition is on since the fuel pump primes. No other ignition related features work. IE radio, power windows, or rear defroster.

I disconnected the battery and pulled all fuses and relays and reseated them just for the hell of it. I was pretty sure that it wasnt going to accomplish anything.

I have used a non chipped (door key) to turn the ignition on so i can operate the windows or a few times but i have never had this problem before.

any suggestions.

You have a short on your headlamps wiring and it is affecting the ignition switch wiring. Need to pull the dash (or fuse panel) and see where the wiring is touching.

This might better be described as a "crossfeed". A short is usually to ground. A crossfeed is from one circuit to another.

The way to start diagnosing this is to get a wiring chart and try to find where there is something common to all those circuits and look there first. The ignition switch and it's connector may be such a common point.

Thanks for the crossfeed suggestion. That is what i was thinking but didn't know the terminolgy. I was going to start at the headlight switch since that gets turned on and off all the time and then get to the ignition.

Is it possible that maybe something is worn in the ignition or headlight switch itself and allowing power to jump? If that is all possible.
