what a pita to try and get to the 2 top bolts that hold the starter in. i had to go to sears to get a couple of different tools(crow's foot,90 degree wrench, swivel socket, etc). i am going to "try" and change the starter on thursday or friday. so has anyone had to change a starter on a 2000 2.5l v6 lately? if so let me know what your secrets are to getting to the 2 bolt's that hold the starter on.

Did mine on a 97 V6, manual tranny. The one scary bolt is down on the left (fron of car) side around the temp sender area IIRC. You can only get a small wrench on it, totally blind and if it rounds off your screwed. Also just getting the starter out through the hoses was a pain. That being said it went smooth for me and took about an hour.

I changed the starter on my '99 SVT a month ago. I searched for hints and "how to" info. before I started. I removed the battery and the intake at the TB to gain access. It was also suggested to use gear wrenches, which really helps. After you remove the bolts be careful as you remove it from the car. This is not a difficult job, just a pita.

Remove the battery & air intake parts to give you work room. Then I drain some of the coolant and remove the hoses. Once the hoses are removed tie them back out of the way. Then the front bolt is very easy to reach. I would recommend a box or closed end wrench. It will save your knuckles and the bolts tend not to round off. reverse for re-install. Fill coolant back up Check for leaks. Have fun. Dan
