There is a 96 SVT Cobra for sale localy with 49K original miles on it and he is asking $9,000 for it. It needs to be washed and the interior detailed, why he didn't do it when he is trying to sell it I don't know. But my question is, what should I look for in this car that might be a sign of trouble. My freind is really looking into getting it as a summer car and keeping his V6 as a winter beater. Also has a nice eclispe head unit, kumo excta supra tires, etc.

Yeah, I just looked up on KBB and it books at $8,000. Thought it would have held resale a little better.

KBB doesn't take in much account for how rare a car is. KBB is pretty stupid sometimes...especially when cars have really low mileage.

KBB takes into account what cars routinely sell for and gather evidence that supports that. So if KBB private party value is $8K I'm sure they did their research to support that a ten year old Mustang that SVT made about 10,000 of that year will sell for about $8,000.

Rare or not, the car did not hold its resale value all that well. Much like my SVT Contour

i dont think KBB is according to area either. when i was shopping for my wife's 3 series vert they were selling well above what kbb had them listed for. kbb also isnt updated frequently (yearly?). example, i was selling my Z71 during the gas crunch two years ago and kbb had it listed well above what the average listed price was.

i think $8k for a 10 year old cobra is pretty good, although a 93 would probably cost the same if not more. compare it to the price of GT and you'll see which one actually holds its value. heck, most cars from 98 arent worth shat now (compared to new price). when i was shopping for my cobra i was amazed at how well they were holding their resale value.

A guy selling a 97 w/ a few mods here is asking $8000, so I'd definitely say that $9k is a bit high asking price.

Not to take this thread in too far of a tangent, but KBB is so completely full of **** it isn't even funny. Case(s) in point.

When I sold my Volvo last year, I couldn't find anyone willing to pay what they had listed as "private party:good condition" considering the car had no rust, never been in an accident and had service records from dealers since day 1. Futhermore, when I bought my Infiniti I bought it for less than they had it listed for as trade in value, and this was at a dealer!!! Coincidently when I sold it, I only got what they had listed as trade in value (dealers weren't even coming close to what KBB had listed for trade-in). Same story with my Escape (although I haven't sold it yet, I am sure it will be the same story). KBB smokes some seriously wicked crack or somethin'
