I paid $17 for a new set of new Boston Acoustic BA745 speakers

Not 5.1

Honestly, I haven't found one yet that doesn't suck. You'd be better off buying a amp and speakers separately if you want decent sound.

I prefer the sound quality of Altec Lansing over Logitech.

Already have that covered

Agreed, though both are better than Creative in my experience. I have the Creative T7700 7.1 speakers .. good for what they are (and go perfectly with my Audigy 2ZS Platinum card) but slightly lacking in midrange. A friend of mine had a tiny 2.1 Altec Lansing set that could probably compete with mine - I was very impressed with them given they were small and budget-oriented speakers.

Agreed as well. Ive had the Altec Lansing 251 set for over 5 years now and theyve done me great.Very durable too(lasted 2 years of college beating)
Surround is awesome for games (cs for example) and as a music lover, they dont disappoint me there either.
Seems they are'nt made anymore but im sure you could find them or the equivalent for ~70. In my opinion well worth the price, id pay more if i had to. Could never go back to less than 5.1 ever again i think

edit: Also, keep an eye on w00t.com if youre lookin for a low price on decent speakers. Might get lucky

I bought these two years ago, and I hope I never have to buy another set of speakers, cuz these are freakin awesome.

Clicky

I know they are more than you are looking to spend, and will admit they are a bit of overkill. (Note the sarcasm.) Howver, they are the best PC speakers I have ever heard, and as I said, I am planning on them lasting forever.
