Is this normal??

I gutted my precats this weekend, havent installed MIL eliminators yet, no check engine light and I just passed emissions this morning. I thought the MILS were a must to pass emissions?

it takes a set number of drive cycles to set a MIL for the precats, you must not have passed that point before the emissions test, the CEL will turn on in time

edit: what year do you have? if it is a 95 you will not get a precat code as there are not sensors to monitor the pre-cats, also the main cat is good enough to past emision testing where they sample the exhaust if the car is nice and warmed up

It is a 98 CSVT, so I guess eventually it will throw the code, but I got lucky for emissions!

Very much so normal, although I threw a code within an hour.

If they just do the sniffer test, you should pass because the main cat will generally be effective enough to scrub the exhaust. If they plug in for the OBD-II test, I'd be VERY surprised if you passed that test.

The cell will come on soon & effect your mixture & timing advance, which will degrade your performance, so get the MILs.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.
