MaddMike I can't believe you even THOUGHT about the Monte Carlo SS - let alone put that thought into words - WHAT A POS!

That would be nice indeed. Heck, a 740i might even be feasible.

hahah NO WAY..BMWs always hold their value so the price range for a 540i would be around $45K imo..

Depends on what you're looking for. I just did a quickie cars.com search on 740s with the price capped at $30K just in the DC area and found a few in the $25K range with 50K-70K miles on them. A 2002 540i with 32K miles and a 6-speed was about $29K, and for $24K-$26K, you find a bunch of 2001s with about 60K miles. That's kind of interesting, that the big boy 7 series and the 5 series run more or less the same price for the same year/mileage.

Much as I like the Subaru STi (I'm biased, of course), given your list of candidates I think you'd be well-served to look at a Subaru Legacy GT.

If, however, you need to get something off of your list, get the G35. Those things sound SOOOOO sweet.

'Course, the STi and the Evo are in your price range if they're used....

On the 'won't get the urge to mod it' subject, I think that the urge to modify a car is a result of 1) creativity, and 2) eventual boredom with a car that's the same as it was yesterday and the day before. Your creativity sure isn't going to just vanish with a new (to you) car, and the boredom will set in eventually as well, once you adapt to the new car.

Look at it this way: When (not if, when) you do get bored, which one will be cheapest and easiest to tweak to relieve your boredom? A Cobra, or a Lightning ... or an STi, Legacy, or Evo.

Wheeeeeeee forced induction!

BTW, MadMike ... my parents' Subaru Legacy Turbo Wagon was built 90+% in the USA, while my '96 Ford Contour SE was built in Mexico. Not discrediting your entire argument, just pointing out that in the global automotive market, nationalism is tricky because cars can be built just about anywhere.

I'd imagine a pulley and chip swap might be cheaper than upping boost on a turbo four.

Whah shore it would. I'm just listing the options.

I almost replied to the Monte SS idea, but I didn't want to seem like a dick

Something along the lines of... "I'd have to get a clip-on mullet until I could grow my own, if I got into one of those bad boys"

'03 540i's can be had, but I'd want an '02+ 740i They can't be touched for under 30K, and that's with high milage
