The only time my Duratec shifts right at the redline is at the drag strip. It's like it knows where it is.

i have the same problem and i think its actually the gauge sending unit. the zetec's have 2 temp sensors, one for them is for the PCM and the other is for the gauge. of course the lower one (hardest to get to) is the one for the gauge which is why i havent replaced mine yet

When is the last time you guys replaced your thermostat? It may be broken or stuck open.

BTW, to get to the lower sensor, it is easiest to just take the whole thermostat housing off the block. (It's only three bolts.)

last time i changes my thermo was about a month ago that was after i had overheating problem. i drained my whole cooling system added new thermo with lower temp resistance and added water wetter and now my engine runs cool maybe its accurate bc sometimes it climbs up to R/M but ussually its cool up to N in NORMAL. what a dilema

mine doesnt even get to the white part of the gauge. i need to hook up a scan tool and see what the pcm is reading for a temp but i think mine is actually the sending unit. that or its a wiring problem cause i did see it work once or twice a few weeks ago.
