Does anyone have any experience with it? ....Heard of it?.....Recommend it?? Its $25 CDN for a 1 L bottle. So, I just wanted to see if its worth spending $75 to change my tranny fluid.

I tried a 50/50 mix of the FULL synthetic Trick Shift (not the regular type-F stuff) on my last change and it made a very slight difference in the feel of the ATX up/down shifts. I will be going to a 100% Synth. trick shift this weekend, but it's only $4 a quart. I don't think you'll feel $75 worth of improvement with the redline fluid in a stock tranny, maybe if you had a hot shift kit or something...

I have about 75% Type-F and and 25% Mobil-1 synth. ATF in my tranny right now. Talk about firm shifts!

any synthetic ATF mixed with friction modifier to make the cocktail will be better than a conventional base ATF with or without friction modifier.

Mixing both synthetic and convention base oils will only dilute the properties of the synthetic oil and or fortify the properties of the conventional oil, I guess its all in how you look at it.

Isn't the modifier for MTX's? Didn't think the cocktail would be good for the ATX's.

I know my owners manual says not to use Mercon V (Synthetic?)!

I remember seeing someone posting that it is bad to put friction modifier in an automatic transmission.

I would not use the friction modifier to an automatic unless it was needed. It did help resolve the lock up converter chatter on some cars so it is not unheard of, but not really advisable if not needed.

As for mixing type F fluid with Mercon (synthetic or not) and using it in a trans that was designed for Mercon, that is automatic transmission homicide. Type F will not provide sufficient lubrication for clutches that were not designed for it. Anyone who does this is at extreme risk. (Don't ask me how I know because I'm NOT TELLING. Let's just say I learned the hard way.

sorry for the confusion but I have an MTX...

2 months ago I had three syncros replaced in my transmission. Yet, I still continue to have problems with it, so I wanted to try putting some high quality fluid in it.

So are you guys saying that Mobil 1 ATF is better for my transmission?

Thanks for your help!!! laugh

My 1998 Owner's Manual specifies ATF that meets Mercon specs for the MTX. For those that want to try a synthetic ATF, Mobil 1 meets Mercon specs.

Many have tried the transmission "cocktail" described in the FAQ's. That formula uses Mobil 1 ATF with 2 oz of Ford Friction Modifier. The addition of the friction modifier improves shift quality dramatically.

Personally, I use the Chrysler spec ATF+3 non synthetic which already has friction modifier in the formulation. It works wonderfully for me.
