I have a 98 SE, 2.0L ATX, My right front tire on occasion sounds like I have a snow tire on the thing. I have had it alligned and tire wear seems normal. No pulling or other rattles. Anyone have an idea what I should look at? I have done the bearing check and that seems fine. I'm stumpted.

What are the occasions? Turning? Low speed or high speed?
Could be bearings, brakes, cv joints.

Straight driving. That's why it seemed odd.

could be a bearing anyway, when I had one go I could hear it when driving straight and then as it got worse you would hear it in a turn

Are the wheel bearings a Ford only part? Or can a get them somehwere else. I'm haveing my rotors surfaced next week so I'l like to get them changed then as well.

i had the same noise last week. when the car was going straight the noise was worse. when i went around a right hand turn the noise got better and worse around a left hand turn. advance auto parts had the bearings for $27 a side and ntb put them in for $120. what a difference! now i can turn my stereo back down. i also had the transmission fluid changed as well as the front brakes and rotors(i changed the brakes and rotors myself because people get ripped off for these!!!!)

Before you spend money on any parts rotate the tires front to back and see if the noise follows the tires or stays in the same place. I had what sounded exactly like a bad wheel bearing turn out to be a bad tire.

have you fixed your ford lately?

Good advice. I'm going to get my FR bearing replaced this week for similar symptoms. I have brand new tires on it, + a recent front end alignment. The car is racking up the miles and this is just another wear item so I'm not feeling to stinky about it!

I'll let you know if it cured it.

Checked all that stuff already. Tires are new all around. I believe these are the original wheel bearings. I think it's time to do them in any event.
