Jeez.. I had almost completely forgotten about this place.. I went to spring zing in '01 when I was an SHO owner (Had a '93 green atx - still have pics of that weekend somewhere) Anyhow, my main concern is reliability.. The years I owned an SHO, I wouldn't have dreamed of taking it on a road trip or anything - because I didn't want to end up staying where I was going. Are the SVT's pretty reliable? Anything to watch out for? Any years to stay away from? Jeez, I might be an OG here with only 4 posts now..

If properly maintained, yes they are reliable. I have had experience with a SHO, and I do know what you mean about the road trip thing. I would take either my 96 sport, or my new SVT across the country without any hesitation.
There is no particular year that I would stay away from. All the SVT years are very similar, although the 99 - 00 did gain 5 hp! Anyways, if you pick up a well maintained low mileage SVT, then you should have a great and pretty reliable car.
For Sale - 96 Tour Sport 2.5L MTX with SVT Exhaust, pre 98 trunklid with newer Contour Sport spoiler instead of lip spoiler, newer Contour sport rims. Newer paint job. Brand new floor mats. Rust Free! PM me for details and pics.

I looked around a little in the classifieds here and sent a couple e-mails..
There's a black '99 close by with a 3L done already.. That would be a nice pickup. What sort of numbers would someone expect with just the swap done?

It is very hard to guess what his numbers would be. I don't know if he has the hybrid 3L ( 3L block with SVT heads/intake manifolds) or if it is the Oval Port 3L with the taurus/escape etc.. intake manifolds. There are so many variables to the cars hp output. Unless it hasn't been tuned, it should/will have more power than a stock SVT either way!

Hey alright another fellow Wisconsinite! I just rolled 101k miles on my 98.5. The engine has been flawless so far, I had some transmission issues but that was due to abuse from the previous owner and neglect on my part, I've learned my lesson. Personally I would look for a 98 csvt, they are a little cheaper and they don't have dash warp issues, and you can make up the extra 5hp in minor mods probably. This website and the info that it has to offer are very valuable to contour owners, it's helped me many times.
