ok has anyone added a svt bumper to a pre 98. I am sitting here looking at this thing and it looks like it needs a good bit of body work, with the change in headlights and the grill. wondering if adding the mirko splitter to mt factory bumper would be less of a hassle. any opinions?

boo yah...

Its really not that difficult... Just buy an SVT bumper, take your current bumper... Cut the top half off of it, do the same for the SVT bumper in the exact same spot... Then Plastic weld it together... Looks pretty good if you ask me...

its a little more then just plastic weld, i would say its a fairly difficult job, especially getting it to line up with the current body lines.

Actually plastic weld would do a decent job of holding the bumper in place, there may be other products similar but that would suffice. Do what Alias jerk said to do, then sand down, prime, and paint. In fact you might not need to prime if you just sand down the entire exisitng paint job and paint over it. Just make sure the lines match up and it will turn out great.

I documented the process in a thread in pics and vids I beleive. Yup, here it is

its definately NOT as easy as "oh, whip it up with some plastic weld, sand then paint yippe!!"

Have to take your time to make sure body lines are right, and then the sanding is the most time consuming part, getting a nice even surface accross the bumper. If you dont get it right it will show big time in the reflection of the finished paint!

Back to the plastic weld thing, I recommend doing both plastic weld AND a two-part urethan adhesive (which is sandable) to aid in the adhesion (and in my case, strengthen the crappy plastic weld job I did).

Finished product:

Your gf's car is riding at least 4" above groug, I'd hate to hear it go over a speed bump. What is it's suspension setup like?
