Last night on my way home, I noticed my charging light flickering when I got into high rpm's(like 5500+), and would go away immediatly when I let off the acceleration.
Is this a sign of belt slippage or an early indicator of an alternator going kaput?????
Thanks, -Keith

chances are early sign of the alternator going but it wouldn't hurt to chang the belt, more so if it is old and see if that solves it

Yeah, mine does that too, but I have a new belt on there....must be the alternator. Sweet.

That's what mine did when it was going. IIRC, I had about two days until it died completely.

Belt slippage usually have an accompanying "squeeling" sound. Test the alternator after charging the battery well. And check the wiring (especially the ground which goes under the battery).

Mine has now been doing it for two years. There is no squealing. Perhaps another cause?

My bet is on the brushes being worn out. THat's what mine started to do. I left it too long before addressing and when I finally did ($10 part from Autozone), the commutator rings were wore out of round. New brush set lasted about one month, then light came on steady. One of teh new brushes has broke the wire attached. Poor little brush must have been bouncing like crazy. Chage the cheap brush holer ASAP and save the commutator rings.

monsoon, didn't you have a topic last week about yours? I have had the same problem for 2 years now. New alternator, belt, battery, fuse link...same problem. checked the battery cables also...it's not that!!
