does any one here from ontario know how the drive clean program will work if i were to swap in a 3L. i am currently looking to buy a 96 se mtx that i would be planing to eventually do a swap on... but how would that effect me passing the e test every 2 years... will i run into any problems.

There was one guy here that did the drive clean and passed fine. The way I see it you have two methods: 1) you can just say your car is a 2.5L V6 and your numbers will come out great because I'm pretty sure the newer 3L will burn alot cleaner then an older 2.5L or method #2) You can tell them and you can get "hotrod" status which means you don't do the drive clean because it's not an engine that came with the car but then I'm pretty sure insurance will have to be notified about the engine swap. I was told this stuff 3years ago so it may have changed now.
I personally would just go and tell them you have a 2.5L and see what the drive clean machine tells.

Very interesting question, since i'll be in this boat come january.
if you retain the stock manifolds and percats you should pass with flying colours. but.. if you have headers or punched the precats, the single stock cat may not be enough to pass the test regardless of which engine is in there. (i do believe i've seen conflicting reports on this, but it's not like we're talking about the same tests as much of the available info here applies to the state that person happens to be living in, not what ontario say's it should be)
A possible solution for this could be to install a second converter immediately after the main stock one. (or two hi-flows if stock cat is not retained) I've been told that this will work, although have not seen if it does. My concern would be that the cat's are far anough back that they wouldn't reach their 'light off' temp, and then be nothing more than a restriction.
You've brought up a topic that i'm not too sure anyone in here has had to deal with yet.
Good Luck!
John.

When I had My old 3L, I did it at a Ford Dealer. I told them it was a hotrod. I told them what I did to the motor and they where fine with that. It passed no problem. Just make sure you change your oil before you do the test...
