I guess my point is what is BMW doing about the broken struts?

The question is compare what BMW is doing, replacing the suspect part, with what Ford is doing for suspect springs on the Contour. Ford is installing spring catchers so when the springs do break, they can be caught before they cut your tires.

Why not do it right and replace the springs before they break?

And, I'm not looking at the car as an investment, but I am interested in total cost of ownership. Since a car is an expense, I can reduce that expense by purchasing or leasing a car that holds its value in the market well. If my lease is fully covered by the warranty and maintenance is included, there are no unexpected costs.

FWIW,

TB

True that... All apologies smile

Thanks for the vote, btw  Guess I deserved it... oh well.

I haven't had a major problem with my SVT yet after 51k miles. \knock on wood\ Although I have had multiple problems with Ford service departments. Ford wouldn't be so bad off if any of their service departments at least pretended to have a clue and/or cared about the paying customer. I'm sure there's a good Ford service department out there somewhere... Just wish I could find one.

Quality is important, but the dealer/service experience after something does go wrong is much more important to many people. BMW doesn't have a reputation as a company with poor quality products or poor customer service. ...Ford on the other hand?
