They are: 2002 BMW 325i, 330i, 525i, 530i Problem: Improperly installed front strut breaks loose from top mount, causing loss of control. Fix: Replace upper mounts. Number: 4,700. I know all cars break. It is how your dealer takes care of you when bad stuff happens. All I know is the local Ford dealers I've tried cannot properly repair a car in one visit. My friend with the M Roadster has nothing but good to say about his BMW dealer. No one here has said that BMWs break less often than do Fords. In fact, I believe the frequency of repair to be about the same. However, I've got to believe that BMW service departments and techs, generally speaking, are better. ( No offense to Big Jim, he just works at a dealership too far away ) I compared the lease of a Lincoln LS V6/Manual to a 325i BMW. The price difference on the cars was about 5K with the BMW being right at $30K and the LS being about $35 equipped the way I'd like it. However, the two year lease prices on the cars told a different story. The BMW was ~$435 for a 24MO/30K mile lease, while the Lincoln was about $800/month for the same term. Must be a big difference in resale value, since I would pay 8760 more for a car that was only 5K more sticker. I'm convinced the only shopper smart way to drive domestic is USED. And the BMW includes all maintenance during that period. I dunno if the Lincoln did. I could buy additional miles on the BMW for $0.20/mile. Had it not been for IL charging the full sales tax on the car, instead of just taxing each lease payment (paying tax only on the portion of the car you use), I'd probably be leasing BMWs every two years with a 30K/year mileage allowance and just put gas in the car and drive Again, I don't say BMWs are perfect, but the people I know who have them have great dealer experiences. Of course, your mileage may vary. TB

Ford dealers consistently rank at the bottom of the customer satisfaction polls, BMW are usually in the top 10. I usually don't put much stock in polls, but this one supports my personal experiences and observations. Of course, I'd also say that if you pay BMW prices you better get top-notch service and perks.

BMW's lease rate is better than the Lincoln because resale value is much better. That's a matter of public opinion, not quality. Besides, if you're buying cars as an investment, you're gonna lose regardless.
Look at the recalls of 3 Series BMWs. Much worse than Contours. So is VW, and Audi isn't much better. If Ford sold a car whose struts broke away from the mounts, a bunch of CEGers would cry a river and scream up a storm about crappy engineering and poor workmanship (and BON would be offering to organize a lawsuit).
Hell, for what my local BMW dealer charges per hour, they BETTER treat me better than the Ford house!
Bottom line? Quit whining. Enjoy driving. If you want a BMW or a Lexus, please buy one. They're great cars. If you want a trouble free investment, I'd suggest gold bullion over the long haul.
