So I'm in need of a "new to me" car. I found a good deal on a 2000 Focus ZX3, 5-speed. Car has been repaired from a minor collision. It looks great, I've driven it already. tracked perfect. I really liked how it drove, seems a lot smoother than the Contour was but nowhere NEAR the power.
I know there a bunch of you guys that have trader or also own a focus. Just want to hear about them. I've been looking around at focaljet, I hate going to new forums, so hard to find stuff. I know about the fuel pump issue. The first thing that I noticed was the shifter, I thought it was going to be just the Contour's, but it felt really rubbery. Is this normal?
Couple of things I didn't like about this particular one. It was VERY base model, only option looks like A/C(which needs to be fixed). No tilt steering. The wheel felt very far away.
Any thoughts would be good.

Before we got the 99 SE we tried a 2000 ZX3. We were coming from a 1992 Mercury Topaz with the slooow 2.3L I4. My mom drove it first and floored, it was kinda better but she didn't like it. I drove it and hated the seat, I felt like I was leaving forward, no matter what I did. Then it really wasn't that quick. Then we tried the Contour and loved it. It was faster, quieter (I thought so), and the ride was better. The Focus handles like it's on rails but it needs some help to be quick (not like a Contour doesn't, but when you compare it....). Overall I liked the Contour a lot more. Hense why I got another one a year later... I still miss that car.

as nice as ZX2's are....They do not age well... I drove a 2002 ZX2 with 47K on the clock, and I swear my contour drove 10x better then that ZX2. A Focus just feels built so much better... plus there is a way nicer aftermarket for the focus Consider it this way, if power is what you want... Pick up a cheap zetec focus, put a JRSC on it and you already have something thats faster then the Focus SVT... For a lot less.

I'm a big fan of the Focus but I'd avoid a 2000MY one like the plague, too man problems.
