Most expensive and painful fuel filter change EVER...

So I'm changing my fuel filter on my csvt, I unplugged the fuse, ran the car till it died, got under the car and unplugged the filter and WOOSH, 40psi of fuel in my face. I rolled over to get out from under the car in a rush, and in doing so exposed my right ear to the line of sight of fuel, pouring half a gallon of fuel in my ear (with a couple splashes in my eye). Ran inside, flushed it out and called the paramedics.. They rushed over, flushed it out with some salt water for about 10-15 minutes and had a nice little chat with me while laughing at my ass for somehow managing to pour fuel in my ear.

Fuel filter: $6
Paramedics: $200
Learning how to change your own fuel filter: Priceless.

Lesson of the day: Unplug your gas cap when you replace your fuel filter.

Flame away....

I had a similar experience. Pulled fuse, opend cap, ran it until it wouldn't run. Got under the car, and a couple of drop land RIGHT in my eye. Burn burn burn burn burn burn! Flushed it out for like 10 minutes with water. And this was on my friends G.F's old stratus...if anyone ever needs help doing it, don't do it.

Maybe I'm missing something,I change my Fueal filter every 15,000 miles and I don't unplug any fuses, run the car at all, or anyhthing like that. I just pop the plugs, let some gas leak out, the put the new filteron and let her rip.

Now, since were on the topic of painful experiences... I was changing mine the other day and Thank god I wear glasses because that fuel hit the ground and splattered trying to get in my eye. Has anyone ever flinched because they didn't want to get hit in the face with gas? I turned my head and low and behold the car sits lower than I thought. Smacked my nose on the lip of the body.

Footnotes from entire post:
1)Dont pull fuse and still change filter
2)changing filter+nose hitting the bottom of Contour = OUCH!!!!!
