Hey could a plugged EGR valve cause a motor to have a knock type sound and cause a real light tan to white runny substance on the oil cap??? I checked the dipstick but there is nothing but oil on that. I am still getting a 332 code from my car. I can keep it running noe and it developes that sound after the car warms up. I noticed when it does make the noise the cars starts running a bit rough as well. Please help as I am in garage now trying to fix it and have till the 14th to get it running or get fined by the city.

Come on guys.....Here is a bit more. I noticed when I took the oil cap off it was pouring smoke out of there and it smelled like exhaust...WTF???? It has me stumped now. I took my thestiscope to it and didnt hear much noise at the bottom end but boy I heard it on the valve cover on the right side up front. I am wondering if the heads are causing all of this mess....Please guys I need help.

Ok guys I did some more looking into the motor and bit the bullit and pulled the upper half of the motor apart and got the valve covers off to find that the timing chain is so lose on this car that I could almost take the chain off by hand without losening anything!! I looked at the cover to realize that the chain has been hitting it and looked down the timing cove and noticed that the nylon chaind guidance was gone and the chain is riding on the aluminum support! I am wondering if I should get a new chain and stuff and replace the bearings and all gaskets for insurance??

Yes, I think your problem based on what you're describing with the exhaust smell from the oil is a blown head gasket. That also fits with the substance you describe on the filler cap. Do something QUICKLY because the antifreeze in the oil is VERY corrosive and will quickly destroy your main bearings and ruin the engine if it hasn't already. Very expensive repair, that. Good luck

Ok but the starnge part is there is nothing mixed with the oil in the pan only on the cap. I have the valve cover off and there is nothing but oil in there no mixture of anything else. Could it be condensation build up from the timing being off causing the motor to run hotter??

Well I started striping the motor down of its good parts to save and as I got the valve cover off I noticed that the timing chain was SO loose on the gears that I could almost take the chain off the gears by hand. I noticed that one of the nylon tenseners were gone and the chain had been hitting the valve cover and rattling off the block which would explain the rattling knocking noise I heard on the upper end. I am almost done changing the chain and hope the car will now run good. I will kepp you guys posted.
