Anybody have an easy way to get a stuck rotor off of the car (98 contour se)? My only thought is to get a big puller. If anyone has other ideas, I'm wide open. If it's the puller, I have to wait till tomorrow.

Thanks for any input.

Your first course of action should be to use a lot of wd40 or pb blaster or some such penetrating oil. Let it soak for a long time with multiple applications.

if you have a replacement and don't care about the shape after you beat it off, then use a big hammer. Otherwise use a puller.

When you re-install, use anti-sieze compound on rotor to hub surfaces.

Good luck!

Thanks. I'm in the process of soaking it with WD40 about every half hour or so and tapping it with a hammer. I have replacements so tomorrow morning I'll get a puller and buy a big hammer and go from there.

Sorry to everyone. After I did the post, I thought of doing a search. Should have done that first. I guess that's why I'm a "newbe".

"tapping" with a hammer wont cut it.
you need to hit it good.

That happened to me last year. I worked on that thing for HOURS!!! Hammer... I finally drilled through it enough for it to come apart in pieces. SUCKED !

Don't forget anti-sieze or you will have to do it all again!

WD-40 is not a penetrant. You're wasting your time using it.

Use PB Blaster, Liquid Wrench, or a similar product.

Go and buy the cheapest grinder you can and grind the part that the bolts go through off (face plate). Should take 10 minutes and the rotor will slide right off(two peices). Be care not to grind to much off.

I had the same problem and this worked like a charm. Banging with a hammer will destroy your suspension parts.

P.S Make sure you sweep when your done!

Thanks everbody for the advice.
When out and bought a 4 lb sledgehammer and beat the rotor like a rented mule. It finally broke loose. The other side came off pretty easy. I did put anti-seize on them before I put it back together. I don't want to go through that again!
I will keep the grinder in mind if this ever happens again. Swinging a hammer in a confined space like that is hard work.
Thanks again everybody.
