I don't know if I'm the first to talk about this, but does anyone have any info on Ford's upcomming new 2.5L 4-cylinder engine. I believe it is going to be the base engine of the new Escape coming in 2008. I was hoping someone would have some interesting info on the speculated specs and maybe some ideas into what other vehicles Ford might put it in.

I'm guessing that the new completely redesigned Focus that will be appearing in 2008 or 2009 will have this engine as it's top-of-the-line model. It'd be a good way to trump the competition. My guess would also be that the base Fusion would also get it at the same time (it wouldn't make good business since to have a more expensive car with a smaller engine).

Anybody?

I haven't heard anything on it. The last 2.5 I4 I ever dealt with was an old GM thing.

Either way, I doubt the focus will EVER trump the competition.

I keep pretty up on Ford since I own a lot of shares of the company, and I honestly can't recall hearing anything about a new 2.5L motor.

The MZR 2.3L ain't that old or that behind on technology. Certainly not old enough to warrant investing Ford's limited resources on upgrading in the near future.

Yeah if Ford is, in fact, still a domestic manufacturer , they will use the engine until the tools to make it are utterly worn out.

Kinda like the DCX was doing until now with the AMC 4.0L I6.

Or Ford did with the 302.

Or Dodge did with the 318/360

Or Chevy did with the 350

Or the GM 60-degree V6s.

Domestic automakers don't change engines that quickly, especially when they produce as good as a product as the 2.3 is.

Now NISSAN has a 2.5L it sticks in its Sentra SE-R. Pretty hot car from what I hear, minus the tire-eating qualities the factory alignment gives it...

Japanese automakers don't change much either. The VQ engine has been around in various states for about 12 years now. The 22RE in Toyotas were around forever. Don't forget about 4G63 in the Mitsubishis which have been around for about 20 years now!

Don't forget about the foreign quality of those cars. The foreign engine can acutally last that long, so why make another engine if the competion can't compete with what you have now.

Foreign engines do rule. The 4G63 has been around for 20 years; the one in my brother's Talon is still running after 16 years and 240k!

Hopefully my 4G63 last than long.

And likewise, there are thousands of Ford and GM motors turning over 1 million heavy-duty miles on the odometer every single day, serving in police cars, work trucks, and taxi cabs, amongst others. The whole superiority argument is a moot point at best.

+1 people just think what they want to think without facing facts.

i saw on tv once this dude who has some sort of hotrod with an original corvette 427 (iirc) in it. It has like half a million miles or something. Said he only has to tighten down the lifters every so often.
