Well about 3 weeks ago I put a Superchips chip and KKM intake into the car. After a few tries, the chip took, and I reset the ECU by pulling the neg wire on the battery.

I started her up about 2 minutes later, and drove around the block to feel what I could given the speed restrictions. It did make a difference, I could feel a bunch more torque, and the secondaries opened up about 7-800 RPM sooner. Eventually I found out the limiter was softened and moved closer to the likes of 7 KRPMs.

Well, now the car needs to get inspected, so I removed the intake, and replaced the factory airbox. Out of curiosity, I took a drive. The car acually felt faster! I can't feel the secondaries come in any more (car kind of shifted and engine changed pitch), and the car feels like it has a little more punch.

Is this just my imagination? Eventually I'll dyno it to see if I'm just dumb, but I really think the stock airbox is making the car faster...

Any thoughts? Suggestions?

When I had the stock air box I would really feel the secondaries open. Now with the KKM I really don't feel it at all.

Probably due to heatsoak, especially in hot climates. More hot air from the engine heat is coming in since it's an open element filter and not shielded like the stock filter. The computer will retard the timing to prevent detonation. As a result, you will lose power.

Probably could be heat soak, but the KKM is kind of restrictive. I put a larger K&N type cone filter and that felt much better. Plus I used a piece of plexi-glass to block off the engine from the filter. I can feel the temperature difference, about 10 degrees. A simply 7.5" x 11" piece with a cut-out for the MAF is all it takes to block off the heat.

On the issue of heat soak........

The UIM/LIM both get very hot while driving. I have a little difficulty believing that warmer air being drawn in really makes a difference that is noticeable. I suppose that warmer air being drawn in would be less dense than the cooler air. I know I'm contradicting myself........but I think you know what I mean.........

Who makes the heat sheild! I keep on seeing people saying to go look in the CO-CEG forum, but no sign of it there frown I'm really interested in this! Instant heat soak cure for KKM's!
