Im not sure if you can remove it completely without getting it done professionally or spending more than $5. About the best you can do, is just slow the process down.

The inexpensive way would be to buy a bottle of touch up paint. Remove all rust and falking/peeling paint. Clean thoroughly. Apply touch up paint.

I do believe if you remove all the rust and give it a rust prohibitor primer, and then paint it, it should resolve the issues. Oh, and try this link. http://wa.essortment.com/carrustrepair_rxkf.htm

On a side note, does anyone know if the roof skin is fully welded onto the frame, or is it spot welded to the point that the rook skin is removeable.

most of the time removing the rust and spraying will do nothing.

This is coming from one of my friends that's done autobody/paiting all his life.

The problem with spray cans is the paint in them is not waterproof, water can get right under the paint and into the rust underneith (basically the paint is there, but its not really there). The only way for sure to remove rust is a good urethane primer, This is waterproof. Rust inhibitors are a waste of time/money IMO.

the roof skin should be removeable/replaceable just like the door skins. replacement is like 650 from bill jenkins then all the labor to install and paint. only way to stop the rust is sand it to the metal and repaint and clearcoat. this will be costly to do. i dont think sanding and repainting will give perfect results (i.e. paint blended in to surrounding paint)
