does anyone know what the correct transmission is that goes
into a 1998.5 svt contour i called 1 ford dealer they said it should be the 97ztba (ford part number on casing) another dealer said it should be the 97tzbb i have both in front of me they look identical on the outside i have the 97ztba in my car now but it was replaced last year because of the same problem with the original (blew the planatary gears through the casing so if anyone knows which one i should use or which one is supposed to be in there that would help me out alot thank you

I suspect that either one is fine, as long as it is a cable shift trans for a V6.

The diff is the weak point in that trans. Now that you know, either spend them money now for a Quafe or Torsen or learn to drive less agressively.

i'd put the updated one in it, or which ever one they put in the 2000 model with an aftermarket diff.
