Well I went to Midas and they looked at my exhaust.(needed new resonator) Without any hesitation they said I had 2.5 inch pipe...so I ordered a 2.5 inch resonator from Summit(Dynomax!!)...well I have 2.25 inch pipe NOT 2.5 inch pipe.
Question: Will it hurt performance if I just weld this thing on?
Thanks.

It might act like a muffler and make the car quieter. If you really want "More Power" then I'd suggest leaving it out and just putting in a piece of 2.25" pipe. Mind you, the car will drone a little from what others have said, but it's a personal choice.

I already have a staight pipe in there = too much rasp drone. My concern was with the turbulance and/or pipe differences i.e. going from 2.25 to 2.5 then back down to 2.25. Reason: some people when they gut the main cat lose power(that open chamber being the problem) I'm worried that the same thing will happen here. Eneyone care to calm my fears?(or prove them right?)

It shouldn't be to big of a concern, but if you want better performance you would be better off going with the 2.25". The smoother the transitions the smoother the exhaust flow will be. If you don't want to pay to ship the dynomax back, just sell it on this site. I would go with the 2.25" res.

Good question.
I'm not too sure, but performance would suffer a little bit, but I don't think it'd be noticeable, depending on how the shop will manage to weld it on...
It'll sure to flow better than the stock resonator, so you really can't lose.

You want to retain the same inner diameter.

Well what dynomax did you get the ultraflow or superturbo.
I have the ultraflow(2.5) in place of my res and a Magnaflow in the rear. It droons but the radio has to be very low or off. Did i notice a differnce, yes i did. With 3 simple mods i gained 13hp. KKM, Ultraflow in place or res, And a Magnaflow muffler in the rear and yes i have the dyno to prove this.

I don't believe that you would notice anything significant in the way of turbulence and certainly no performance loss. Hell the resonator I use as upturned lips all around the inside of it and I just made sure that the inside diameter including those was 2.5". In actuality, I don't think the SVT piping is 2.25", it is about 2"
I wouldn't worry about it at all.
