It's been WAY to long since I've been here. My 98 Contour SVT Died on me almost 6 months ago and it hurt to bad to visit this site. Now she's in the shop with a definate broken connector rod. They are pulling the motor today. My problem/concern is that I have decided to put a regular 2.5 from a Mercury Mystique into the car. My mechanic is switching the heads over to make it"look" authentic. I feel like a fake! Should I just go ahead and remove myself from this site before someone kicks me off or what?

No, but instead of that, why don't you get a 3L block and heads off of an 01+ Escape, tap a hole for the knock sensor, port the heads to match your Intake Manifolds and have the injector holes filled and re-tapped in the right places, assemble and put in? You might need a chip or some tuning, but since you already have an SVT, you have most of the expensive parts already!

So wrong. Have him rering your pistons and reuse those as well. If he really bolts on the heads and the black intake manifold you'll have an SVT engine.

I like the sound of that idea and have discussed it with many nechanics. Most of them don't want anything to do with my car. It took me 4 months to finally find the guy that's doing it right now.The 2.5 was his idea. Maybe it comes down to the cost factor. This job is setting me back app. $3500.00 CAD. I know it's not a lot, but it definately hurts. Do you think the option you gave me would be pricey or around the same?

WTF? There is more than enough info out there for a 'good' mechanic to do the 3.0L. If us DIYers can do it a 'real' mechanic should be able to do it too...and it shouldn't be anymoer expensive than what you are doing now!

You have a PM. I think you will be happy with the solution. and you can still claim to be a true SVT

Well, anything involving an engine swap at a shop is going to be pricey, as you've just experienced. But there really isn't any reason I could see why the 3L would be much more expensive than swapping in another 2.5.

If you really want to do the car justice. Pick up a 2001+ engine and just use the block. Bolt the heads to the 3L block and the rest of the components to of your SVT to it and then you'll have great performer.

what about the pistons, rods, and crank? I heard you make more HP if you use those in conjunction with the block...
