Hey guys, quick question. On my Contour for some reason my High Speed on my Radiator Fan does not engage. When it is supposed to engage, the fan shuts off. It then gets almost to the Red on the Gauge and then the Low speed overrides and kicks in. I have already replaced the High speed relay twice and it still does this. Anyone with a possible solution please let me know of any information. Thanks alot in advance. Paul

Are you certain it's not the low speed fan function that is failing to come on when it's supposed to (around 210F)?

The high speed fan function should kick in around 215F or so.

Low speed operation is via the "ENGINE COOLING FAN RELAY" K45 and the series dropping resistor.

High speed operation is via the "HIGH SPEED ENGINE COOLING FAN RELAY" K46 which, when energized, bypasses the low speed circuit and applies direct battery power to the cooling fans.

Both relays are controlled directly by the PCM and are activated under specific temperature conditions and other specific circumstances regarding the A/C system.

Cooing fan topic that should help you out

The fans should kick on at "M" on the gauge. That would be the low speed. High speed only comes on with hot weather and a/c in use, as far I have seen. Turning the a/c on at any engine temp will turn the fans on at the low speed.

I am 100% sure that it is the High Speed. The Low Speed runs constantly when the A/C is on. But if it is off then when the temp on the gauge creeps just past 1/2 (when high speed should engage), it doesn't. The low spped kicks in when it almost reaches the red, but WILL NOT overheat. It obviously only does this when the car is idling with the A/C OFF.
