I seriously just got 12 mpg. I noticed it was kind of wierd after the CEL came on and the code was P1131. After some research here I replaced the rear bank upper O2 sensor (pain pain pain) and finally (105000 miles) did the spark plugs and wires and a fuel filter...Then the charging light came on and had the alternator replaced. What else can cause such poor gas mileage?
I filled it up a couple of nights ago, and reset the trip odometer. At 22 miles the gas gauge read 3/4 of a tank. At 82 I was at half a tank. Filled up today and put in 7 gallons with only 82 miles on the odometer. WHAT IS UP?
I hope the O2 sensor and the plugs and wires and filter will make a difference. 12 mpg sucks! LITERALLY!!!

Check tire pressure and put car on jack stands and spin the wheels (to check for brake problems). What RPM does it idle at when warmed up?

well like tony said tire pressure and sticky brakes could be a possibility. You changed the plugs, fuel filter so those are out. Got a lot of junk in the trunk? Hows the air filter lookin? Do you drive the car hard? Could be bad gas. In my experience after I have done a tune up i get some low mileage for the first tank or so, but nothing ever like 12 mpg.

Are you hauling an extra dead body or two in the trunk of your car?

What fixed my bad mileage and lean codes were 2 upper 02's and a DPFE sensor. Also try looking for a vacuum leak.

He should be getting a totally different code if the IMRC isn't working, when I rebuilt my intake manifolds I was in a rush and forgot a connection for the IMRC and it threw me a P1518 code for Intake Manifold Runner Control stuck open, he should get a code close to that if his IMRC is dead.
