Hello,

Wife is reporting that her '98 Contour has been having acceleration issue. At least once a week during normal driving (non-highway) the car won't accelerate. Recently, the acceleration issue was followed by check engine. The car is not turning off; she simply reports stepping on the gas and not moving. She recently reported a burning smell as well (but can't confirm if it's her vehicle).

We recently had the main serp belt changed, new battery, control arms, and new tires.

Could this PVC related, timing belt, water pump?

Vehicle has 50,000 miles and used mostly for local driving (non-highway).

Thanks in advance for any help.

Best,
Vincent

Scan the Check Engine light and post here. Autozone and Advance will do it for free. What engine? V6 Duratec or I4 Zetec?

Smell like rotten eggs? Sounds like clogged cat.

OK, can't repeat the check engine light. Brought the car to AutoZone to get a read, but the check engine light isn't coming on again.

Issue again is that during normal driving car will appear to die (power doesn't cut), but the car won't accelerate. Stop the car and fire it up and the car is fine. Seems to happen every other day or so.

Any thoughts (battery and serp belt was changed two months ago). Could it be another belt/hose, alternator, pcv?
