Thanks to all who have advised me regarding my overheating problem.

I now have another conundrum that I need your help with...

My '95 Mystique LS 2.5 litre has remote locks and trunk and the rmeote locks do not work with the remote. When I press the unlock button on the remote twice, the interior lights come on, as well the car will chirp if I press the lock button twice and the panic alarm will come on if I hold that buton down. The trunk button won't work. So I know the remote unit in the car is getting the signals. I have replaced the batteries in the remote and still get the same results.

If I press the power lock button on the passenger door, all the doors will lock and vice versa with the unlock button on the passenger door. The drivers door power lock buttons do not work. I have replaced the switch on that door but it still won't work. I can only power lock/unlock all doors at once via the passenger switch. I cannot figure out what the problem is on the drivers door but I suspect the solenoid on that door may be toast, but that doesn't make sense since the passenger door switch will lock/unlock the drivers door fine. Key locks work fine.

Anyone have any ideas? I have tried to reprogram the remote unit under the glove box by jumpering the programming connector and it chirps when I turn the key off, but I could not get it to chirp when I press the remote buttons.

Anything else I could check into or perhaps I am doing something wrong with the programming? This has been like this since I got the car. Drove me nuts when my locks got frozen and I couldn't unlock the car without heating the key up during the winter.

TIA!

It sounds like you have an aftermarket keyless entry system since you said that your car goes into panic when you press and hold the lock button. If you had the factory system your remote would have 4 buttons, lock, unlock, panic and trunk. The lock and unlock buttons would be black, the trunk button would be blue and the panic button would be red.

Since you have an aftermarket system and the driver's door lock switch doesn't work, I'm also assuming that they wired the system into the power locks on the driver's side. The connection there is probably bad and causing an electrical short, or the relay isn't working. You'll need to have someone find the keyless entry brain and check the wires and relays that control the door lock circuit. Also, don't worry about the remote trunk not working. If your car didn't have factory keyless entry, then it didn't have a power trunk release. Aftermarket keyless entry can't control a non-power trunk release unless a power trunk release is installed and that is something most people aren't willing to pay the extra $150 for when they have a $100 keyless entry installed.

The givaway that you have an aftermarket alarm is that it "chirps". The factory units don't do that. Start by looking under the dash and finding the alarm control unit. Try to find a name on it so you can try a ggogle search to see if you can come up with some instructions.

Actually it's NOT an aftermarket remote system. It's the factory system with the Mercury logo on the remote. The remote has the 4 buttons on it..Panic, lock, unlock and trunk. The panic button is red and the trunk one is blue. I meant in my first post that if I hold the PANIC button down, the alarm would start up.

I checked the trunk and it does have the remote trunk option as I can see the solenoid for it.

The factory system does not "chirp". I don't care what the remotes look like, there is some sort of aftermarket alarm overlayed in there somehow. It may even be a dealer installed system with the Ford logo. Look under the dash and find it. Most of the time they are added on the driver's side near the fuse box.

I checked all over. No aftermarket system. Under the passenger side behind the glove box and tucked by the factory stereo amp, the factory module is there. It has the factory connectors including the programming plug. That is the plug I jumpered and the car will chirp when it goes into programming mode.

I checked the remote against my neighbour's who has a '96 Mystique and they are the exact same remotes.

One thing I remember, thought it was a bit funny... I was coming from my daughter's high school choir concert a couple months ago and couldn't quite find my car in the dark parking lot, so I pressed the unlock button twice to turn on the interior lights and found the car. What struck me as wierd is that when I first pressed the lock botton twice by mistake, the late model Ford Explorer parked in front of my car flashed it's healights. I pressed the button twice again and the Explorer flashed it's headlights again so I know it was my remote doing it.
