i got a 96 contour, GL, v-6 engine. they have two fans.. the one for the HOT engine comes on a few seconds after the motor is started.... no problem with this and the engine temp. gauge stays at O on Normal Scale.... But when i put the A/C on the A/C fan for the radiator does not come on. i think this fan should be on all the time when you click the a/c on? the car will heat up and the temp. guage will keep going all the way over to the L and then some in NORMAL. i then shut off the A/C and the temp will drop back down to N or O on the guage. i replaced the High Speed Cooling Fan relay, in the elect. box under the hood thinking this might be the problem. it did not help. any guesses????? I hate to tear out the Fan motor to replace it.
the Haynes book seems to make this alot of work.. the old CD that i had gave more info and I lost it to the flood water of the Hurricane. Any help will be appreciated...
thanks.. djbird@sprynet.com

Both fans should run, there is no low speed or high speed fan, they both work at low speed or high speed together.
Yes the fans should run continuously when the A/C is selected.
What is the condition of the wiring harnesses around the fans, is the insulation good?

Try reading this topic, I participated on a day I felt ambitious Fan topic, including test procedure.

You can test high and low speeds. The a/c always runs the low speed fan, as long as the a/c is functional. Caution: If the a/c compressor is running with no radiator fan, it may blow the R134 in warm weather. Low speed will also happen if the engine reaches the m on normal for a few minutes.

thanks, today i checked the wiring harness for the cooling fans? and the A/c clutch... dont know how the clutch worked as it was frayed all the way up..... got some liquid tape and put it on it and seperated the wires the best i could and taped it up with some electrician tape... now i put it back together and the a/c works the clutch will pump away but the fan will not work. the further i go the worst the wiring gets.. hate to bring it to the dealer as it is covered by the 10 yrs 100,000 mile warranty, but dont want them to mess it up any further.. i have fixed other wires that had lost its insulation and caused problems with the liquid tape and some electrian tape, but this is the worst i have seen.. could not believe it.. the only problem is the high speed fan for when the a/c is on. thanks for the help.

I agree with your comments on not bringing the car in for the 99M03 recall. I had mine done, but they're still working on some things that aren't working right.
The wires under your intake manifold will be in the worse shape.
Still, if the cars still can have the wires replaced, do it before it's too late.
