My car has been driving me nutty these days. Misfiring every so often then running fine. I could never catch it in the act and put my scanner on it to run a test or troubleshoot which cylinder is not firing. Yesterday I finally caught it. Number 3 cylinder is not firing. It has spark and compression but it either has no fuel or insufficient fuel or maybe too much. I hope it is only the injector and not a bug in the EEC. Looks like the manifolds need to come off again. I've run different cleaners through the fuel until I'm blue in the face. Even running it in super concentrate form - low fuel and dump in bottle of Techron for 20 gallon tank. No dice.
I learned that the cylinder balance test only tests compression. It shuts off fuel and ignition then compares the balance. You have to go the old fashion way, pull the wires one by one and listen to the engine.

I just swapped out the bad #3 injector. But before I did that, I wrote down all the wire color codes first since Ford changed them when the harnesses were replaced. Even the connector color is different; both are black. Ford book says one black and one gray.
The engine is like new! That injector has been causing so many misfires and weak acceleration. Problem would come and go and eventualy it missfired all the time and ran rough. With the price of gas, I couldn't afford to run the car!

I lost one of mine down the hatch. The dealer said either buy the harness or hit the junk yard for it. I made one from a paper clip that works perfectly.
