Does any one know what an intermediate shaft does or sounds like when it starts to go?
I have a howl coming from the passenger side of the car and it pulls in that direction. All the cv joints and axls are new in the car and there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the wheel bearings. The howl starts at about 40mph and viberates a little.
Thanks
Hippe

Verify how you "know" there isn't anything wrong with the CV's etc.. and, verify that there isn't, in fact, anything wrong with the bearings... My guess lies on the bearings.

do the "push/pull" test with both front wheels (one at a time), and also keep in mind that a bearing CAN pass the test and still be failing..

Both left and right cv assemblies are new, i replaced the LCA on the left side this week with the cv axle.
The bearings move freeley with just two fingers in them, there is no dragging when i took apart both sides. They both still look brand new.
Thanks for the quick reply!

My guess would be the pressed in hub bearing on that side. Have they been changed before? My Tour has 173000 km's and is still running the origionals.

As far as i know the bearings are the original to the car.
I guess ill try throwing in a new bearing as well as a new intermediate shaft, since ill have it apart any way.
