I know there is a fair amount of young whippersnappers on this board, but I was hoping some of the older fellers might have some input on this matter. I know I'm not the only one here who has had problems with losing hair. I started noticing it right about when I was 20/21 when my hairline receeded a bit. A few years ago (2003 IIRC) I started "bic'ing it". In October I went on propecia, and started letting my hair grow again so I could see any differences (I haven't yet, although my dermatologist said it takes 9-12 months to start working at all). I was wondering if anyone else here takes something (propecia, rogaine, whatever) and what your results have been. I know I'm not the only sucker here suffering.

Rogaines of the world only work for male pattern baldness, the back center round part that most people lose first. If your hair line is receding the only proven method is plugs.

Agreed. My uncle has been in the hair replacement business for years, after losing his hair when he was around 21 or so. He started out with the hair club for men type stuff, where they literally glue a hairpiece to your bald scalp. It actually looks very good but it is a lot of mainenance. Of course, he was pretty much fully bald on top, not just a slightly receding hair line.
However, he has since gone in to the business of surgical hair replacement. Basically, they cut out some of the hair on the back of your head, above the neck, and transplant the folicles in to the front. He had the procedure done a few years ago and he looks fine now. I'm sure it is a fairly expensive procedure.

KURT: How long do I have? GEORGE (solemnly): 14 months. Maybe 10. KURT: Is there anything I can do? GEORGE: Yes. Live, dammit. Live! Every precious moment as if this was the last year of your life. Because in many ways...it is. BTW: my hair style is Jean-Luc Piccard.

Hehe. I'm not quite there yet.
No enhancement of any kind for me. If the rest of my hair goes, so be it. Decided to grow old gracefully & flaunt what God gave me.

Funny!
If I ever loose my hair I have always planned on the Jean Luc Piccard look as well. I seem to be receding a little on my crowns, but I'm 35 and have cueball friends my age, so I'm not too worried about it. I have good genetics on my side, as both of my grandfathers didn't really bald (one is still alive at 93, and still has his hair) and my Dad at 64 only has a small rear bald spot.
However, I am graying pretty rapidly. My beard has been salt and pepper since my mid 20's. I'm dirty blonde so it isn't too obvious, but the white hair on my head is becoming more noticable every day (it seems). I have decided that that is the way it is. I don't ever plan on coloring my hair or anything.

I used to refer to what was on my head collectively as hair, now it's gotten to the point that I call them hairs. Isn't that ironic?
