I have figured out there are 2 gears that like to break in the power antenna unit. Anybody know a source of replacements? (I know there are sunroof gears..)

There is a toothed whip that is part of the antenna mast. The teeth on this whip is what tends to break up after a lot of use. Wear on those teeth is accelerated when the mast is bent.

The fix is to replace the mast which includes the toothed whip. Sometimes it is necessary to disassemble the scroll part of the mechanism to remove the broken pieces of the whip. The instructions that come with the new mast usually describe how to change the mast.

Other gears that commonly break in the power antenna? There aren't any others that commonly break.

Do you get a new "mast" through ford, or autozone?

My gears broke, twice. The mast got bent, I think that contributed to the gears breaking. The belt teeth were OK. Last summer I had two gears break when the mast did not jam, and I used an Antenna X antenna for parts, worked perfectly until last week. The new Antenna X is completely different.I might just get a used stock one and hope it lasts..

Fav,
Get a regular antenna! No gear=no broken gear. Mine has been fine for 10 years.

Tony,
Good idea! I actually removed the bad gear and it's a "manually retracting" antenna right now . Like on a boombox. The regular fixed antenna is more flexible if it hit something though..
