Just gutted my precats by cutting flap in front header. What is the approximate exhaust gas temp in this area. I am wondering if I can use J.B. Weld to seal up the flap rather than a weld. J.B, has a max. temp of 600F. Probably way too low - but I want to check anyway.

Thanks

when I did mine I used q-weld don't it gets hot and blows out, use exhaust cement it's like 1.00 a tube and you can seal 100 precats with it. just go to the exhaust section of your local auto parts store it's for plugging up exhaust leaks.

I have used that exhaust weld (This stuff was called Exhaust Mend) and came in a little small container, the stuff was black and once exposed to air would harden. Anyhow I didn't plan on this being a permanent solution but just to date it is still working. My fiance's tempo, broke where the y-pipe connects to the manifold. Anyhow i gooped it up with exhaust mend (cause me like 3.29$ CDN) and it has been fine since. I did this back in late October and it's still holding up, although like what was already mentioned I don't recommend it for a permanent solution, but it does work for a little while.
