Can you guys give me any suggestions. I tried to install an aftermarket intake pipe. The one that I purchased would not work on my contour. I have a 99 SE Sport V6. So I returned it back to stock. No the car idles rough, It shifts out of synk, and it knocks and pings like a pinto when I accelerate. How do I go about fixing this without spending countless dollars at the dealership. do you guys have any answers. I am calling to the contour gods

Sounds like you have a Air leak after the MAF. Check that all the clamps are on tight and the hoses are seated properly.

I assume after running it with the aftermarket pipe, you disconnected they battery to let the computer reset itself. And switching back to stock, like wise...

Yes i disconnected the battery before I installed the aftermarket pipe. I also disconnected the battery before and after returning it back to stock. In fact every time my check engine light comes on I disconnect the battery and reset the computer

Might want to double check all your hose and electrical connections. It really sounds like there is a leak somewhere. I wouldn't bother disconnecting the battery anymore, the CEL will keep coming back as long as the fault condition is still there. When you get it fixed, the light will go out and stay out. CEL basically indicates that engine does not seem to be operating within normal bounds and is probably polluting more than it should. If a sensor is unhooked or a hose is leaking, you'll get the symptoms you describe.
