I have noticed that my 98 Contour has moisture in the trunk. Mostly after washing and heavy rain. Can I get some advice on the normal places that these trunks develop leaking issues. And of course any help in determining where the leaks are would be great.

I had rust develop around the bottom of my rear window and created way for water to get into the trunk. Had a shop remove the window, clean it up, and repaint to fix. Thats just my experience, I'm sure there are more common places for leakage though.

get in there with a flashlight, close the trunk and have someone run a hose over it for a little while. Locate the leak and fix it...........

I've noticed that when it rains (or has rained and the car is wet)and you open the trunk, water drips in from the bottom corners of the trunk lid (or what was the bottom corners when it was closed). That causes moisture in mine. I just hold it open a bit to let the water run off, then open it all the way. Still get some drips though....

Two leak locations that have soaked my trunk over the years were: 1) Air exhaust vents. These are plastic inserts (mine had cracked) hidden behind the fender side trunk liners on each side. They snap in from the outside which means (at least on my SVT) that the rear bumper cover had to be removed to install the new vent.
2) Small leaves, maple seeds, misc. dirt builds up behind the tail light pods so that water drains into trunk instead instead of around the light and out. Easy fix. Pop out the module, clean, and you're back in business,
