So now with the mechanical problems under bay (or at least I hope), let's get to one other thing that's bugging me..

Our 95 mystique's trunk leaks, and yeah I searched, but probably didn't use the right words - basically the red bar that goes across the back of the decklid regularly gets filled with water, and when I open the trunk, that water drips through the license plate/reverse light area and onto the trunk floor.

Thankfully, it's nothing big, but a nuisance nonetheless and part of the reason I'll be replacing the "carpet" back there (probably the big piece of "wood" underneath it) -- any suggestions for quick replacements on those?

That piece of wood got all warped, I suppose I could hunt for one at a junkyard that'd fit, maybe the piece of carpet too, but suggestions are nice, what do you guys think? I dunno if it was the recycling or the stinky water that landed on it, but they smell funny and.. yeah.

While we're on the topic, has anyone ever had a problem with carpet coming up on the edges inside the car?

I'm no help but I have the exact same problem on a '97 Mystique. Including the carpet coming up. I'll be watching for replies.

if the rear reflector is filling with water take it off the car and put some drain holes in it, very small ones at the corner of the plates ... maybe at the outside corners also ...

While you have it off, improve the gasket along the top edge and around where the license plate hole is, and check if the plate mount holes are sealed (sometimes the holes are broken out because they rusted up) I don't think you need drain holes. Both my Mystiques responded to gasket improvement. The top edge gasket lets water in and it gets in the reverse lamps, water everywhere...Use 3M strip calk and weatherstrip foam.

Do you happen to mean the thin piece of rubber between the top of the trunk and the top of that reflector plastic thingy? If so, that piece of rubber has been missing from our car for years and years and years, long story but to cut it short, it came with an edge loose and someone got bored and yanked on it.. lol it wasn't me!

I'll look into this one though

Yes, that, and I think there is a gasket below it. If you still have the strip, reattach it...If not, you could get by without it.
