My 99 CSVT has little cracks in the paint, almost like heat fractures. These little cracks are popping up all over my car, especially on the hood, and on the roof. The car is black, so I expect it not to be perfect, but the rate I'm goin, I won't have any paint left on my hood in the next 3 years. No, I don't do a lot of highway driving, and they are not chips caused from debris. I take care of my car, and it always gets washed. I know many black cars that are older that don't have this problem. God knows I love the car, but the paint is just terrible! I think it may be a defect. I just want to know if anyone else has experienced this, especially if your tour is a 98-00 model and black. Thanks.

Most likely clearcoat cracking. Looks like tiny slits in the paint, white in color. all over, giving a starfield appearance to the cars surface.

Thats it! They are all like that? Did anyone every complain to FORD and get anywhere?

its very common with the black contours.

I have the same problem right now with my Black 99 SVT. I take very good care of my car. It's a daily driver but has been parked in the garage every night for the last 2 1/2 years. Before that it was parked under a car port at my apartment. I haven't asked Ford about the problem because they fought me to replace my second warped dash  . If you have any luck let us know, if not, I will get it re-painted when I can afford it or can't stand it. -Aaron

same problem my contour svt is black 98 and after 1 year of use and detailed care the paint or clear look like you say

Mine had the problem, but the original owner had it repainted... too bad it was repainted before the black pre98 trunk... guess what's doing it now?!?!
As for getting the dealer to do it, don't ask me...

People have tried to get ford to fix this problem but they say its not there fault. If you do try lets us know, mine is a 98.5 black and is horrible, car looks dirty when clean.
