Has anyone been watching the Rallye racing on Speed Channel? Its cool how the cars dont stall even when inverted,,,they just showed the Peugot 206 roll and get pushed upright by spectators,,,engine never missed a beat....
also,,,anyone seen the accident in Formula 1? Salo went butt first into someone else at a good speed,.,,after overruning the apex...

Scary to see

DO fuel injected cars stall when inverted?

With piston engined planes that had in-line engines, it was generally the case that the fuel injected ones didn't stall when inverted or in a negative G situation but the carbureted ones did.
The classic example is the fuel injected ME109 vs. the RAF's cabureted Spitfire. The 109s could evade when defensive with a negative G dive (just pushing forward on the stick) while the Spitfire would have to roll inverted and pull back on the stick (to be in a positive G situation) in order to follow.

Never really thought about how it applies to cars. Hopefully won't have a chance to test this first hand ever. And just to be safe I won't try to follow a rolling BMW if I'm driving a Jag. smile

Well, carburetors have that pesky butterfly that falls off probably if inverted. Fuel injection cars shouldnt stall if the gas can be picked up,,,airplanes (as in aerobatics) have special tanks to fly inverted,,,i guess if inverted too liong in a car not designed to be so, would crap out due to oil starvation.

Also,,,I didnt think that the Rolls Royce Merlin engines were carbureted,,,maybe only the first Spitfire models. but not the Supermarine Spits

Merlins started as carbed motors and ended the war in injected supercharged motors

an EFI motor can still stall out when it is upside down- they have to have DIRECT INJECTION to not stall- all the current WRC cars have GDi or Gasoline Direct Injection
