I am in the market for a replacement air filter, and K&N will be my choice for now because I just want a low cost mod where everything will still be stock looking.

I have heard that there is a possibility that a Ford Mustang K&N cone filter will fit the Contour SVT with out any mods....just a drop in. Does anyone have a part # and approximate cost?

I would like an alternative to the SVT filter, because there is a high possibility that wherever I purchase it from will need to order it. I would think that if it's for a Ford Mustang they would be more likely to keep it in stock and I would be able to take it home that day.

I have done a search in the parts area, but only lists the stock filter part # for K&N. If there is an alternative that will still fit without any mods, then we should also list the other part.

I am only doing it this way for now, cause budget is tight, but I do plan on getting a better intake as more money becomes available!

Sorry I dont know the part number but dont buy the one that is supposed to be for the CSVT. Mine was the crappiest fit ever. I had to shave a whole lot off of the metal flange just to fit it inside the air box. The part number has to be on here somewhere for one that actually fits correctly.

It's the one that suppose to fit 94-95 mustang 5.0. The price is around $35 which is $20 cheaper than the one for contour. There was no issue on fitting. SVT2000 on this board can verify that since we did it to his car. Hope this helps.

Well, it fits, but it does cut off some airflow because it is slightly too large. Just buy the Contour one! I've seen it for $45 online. Part E0998

Lance,

Okay! Yeah, I might go ahead and do that! I don't want any restriction in airflow as it is!

The "drop-in" SVT conical is the largest (non-flanged) conical filter K&N makes outside of the 1G DSM's (which is very wide in diameter - too wide to fit BTW)

If has more surface area than either the Mustang or F-series conicals by a fair margin!

I own a 2000 SVT and bought the E0998 for it. I did not have to cut or trim anything to get it to fit, maybe there's a difference in the older SVT airbox. Mine fit perffectaly! wink

So you ended up with a smaller area filter in your setup and the added length blocked off more air coming in through the already tiny intake hole...

2 negatives do not make a positive in this case...

Actually, that is the NORMAL stock K&N part # for the 1998 - 2000 SVT. My question is that I am looking for something that is easier to locate and cheaper than getting that one. For the SVT K&N, you usually have to special order it and pay twice what they "should" run! Has anyone stuck anything other that a stock K&N air filter for the SVT in the stock airbox and it fit without any or very little modifications?

Unfortunately, you pay for having a limited run vehicle.....but I wouldn't have it any other way! LOL! laugh
